A single person is already a symbiote: an ongoing coupling between a physical body that persists across time and space and a collection of patterns that require additional sieves (attention, practice, social context, external structure) to persist. This internal symbiosis is the smallest scale. The framework scales to any multi-entity system in which participants exchange patterns bidirectionally and some form of directed coherence stabilizes the whole.
A symbiote is a coupled system engaged in mutual pattern exchange, held together by overlapping intention or directed coherence. Examples include partners, parent-and-child, person-and-AI, households, creative collaborations, and larger cultural or institutional systems. When larger symbiotes form, you become smaller within the nested structure.
Key dynamics:
- Mutual pattern exchange is the living connection.
- Some stabilizing intention is present (it need not be identical for every participant).
- The symbiote produces capabilities the individual entities could not sustain alone.
- Nesting means you can be both a complete symbiote and a part inside a larger one.
When the patterns inside and between participants are well-aligned with the Eldritch Mundane, the symbiote operates at lower energy cost. Forced or parasitic alignment produces short-term coherence at high long-term cost. For participants doing continuous high-resolution friction-damping, equivalent exchange is the only sustainable operating principle.
What it is not One-way extraction, complete loss of boundaries, or permanent harmony.
How to use it Treat any multi-entity relationship as a pattern-exchange system. Ask what patterns you are emitting and receiving, what intention is stabilizing the whole, and where you are a whole versus a part. Prefer arrangements that support equivalent exchange and lower ongoing energy cost.
